Seaside Communications was founded in 1979 and provides Analog, Digital and HD Cable TV, Telephone, and High-Speed Internet services to cable subscribers in Glace Bay, New Waterford, Louisbourg, Baddeck, St. Peter's and several other Cape Breton communities.

Sister Company: Seaside High-Speed is one of two companies contracted to implement the province of Nova Scotia's rural broadband project, which has expanded high speed Internet access throughout the province.

Seaside High-Speed serves rural portions of Cumberland, Colchester, Halifax, Pictou, Antigonish, Guysborough, and the four counties of Cape Breton.

Seaside Communications and Seaside High-Speed were created by Cape Breton entrepreneur Irving Schwartz who passed away September 2010.

Seaside Communications donates $10,000 to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre.

The Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation is a non-profit, charitable organization established to ensure quality health care for all Cape Bretoners. We raise funds for state-of-the-art equipment and enhanced services at the Regional Hospital.

Every dollar you give is used to improve health care for the patients of the Regional Hospital. Since 1991, the Foundation in partnership with the community has raised more than $15M to support enhanced healthcare at the Regional Hospital that has dramatically reduced wait times and provided an increased menu of services closer to home.

Our projects include the Cape Breton Cancer Centre Expansion, a new MRI and bone densitometer, innovative surgical equipment, incubators and monitors for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the new Palliative Care Unit. These projects have helped ensure an additional 125 people a day receive care at the Regional instead of traveling to Halifax.

The Regional Hospital Foundation officially names:

"The Irving Schwartz Radiation Wing"

Mr. Irving Schwartz, OC (August 27, 1929 - September 18, 2010)

was a Canadian businessman and noted community leader, philanthropist, and humanitarian and original founder of Seaside Communications.

Irving was inducted into the Order of Canada for his work towards ridding the world of landmines, and was later made an officer of the order.

On August 8th, 2011, family members and Foundation representatives gathered at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre to celebrate the official naming of the Irving Schwartz Radiation Wing. This is in celebration and recognition of Schwartz's commitment and leadership to the Regional Hospital Foundation's $5.5 million Cape Breton Cares campaign, which he chaired.

Mr. Schwartz, who was a patient at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, was instrumental in the success of the Foundation's campaign in support of cancer and neonatal care in Cape Breton. He worked tirelessly to ensure the $5.5 million goal was met in May 2010.

I've been a close friend of Irving's for a long time and, as Campaign Co-Chair, I worked closely with him on the Cape Breton Cares campaign. His dedication to this campaign was truly inspiring and will not be forgotten. Thanks to his perseverance the Cape Breton Cancer Centre and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit will provide the best care to its patients, shares George Unsworth, Foundation Board Member and Cape Breton Cares campaign Co-Chair.

During this reception, the Cape Breton District Health Authority also named the Irving Schwartz Caring for Cape Breton Award, which recognizes significant achievement in health philanthropy, outstanding community commitment and the ongoing generosity that supports the growth and delivery of health care in the Cape Breton District Health Authority.

Irving's ability to inspire and influence people to support home grown projects is a special part of his legacy, says John Malcom, CEO for the Cape Breton District Health Authority. Many people in our communities are benefiting from his tireless efforts to raise money for health care. Naming the District's award in honor of Irving Schwartz is fitting because he truly worked in the spirit of caring for Cape Breton.

Since 1991, the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation, in partnership with the community, has raised more than $15 million to purchase medical equipment that has dramatically reduced wait times and provided an increased menu of services' closer to home.
